Police Suspect Foul Play

Arkham Gazette

Renovation of the café's basement was halted yesterday by the discovery of a skeleton hidden behind a brick wall.

The Wilmarth Café, at 172 W. Church St., formerly Henderson's Antiques, was in the process of renovation when workmen broke through a basement wall and discovered the remains beyond.

Police removed a single skeleton and some personal effects, under the direction of the Arkham Medical Examiner, Dr. Ephraim Sprague, Jr. Dr. Sprague has stated that he believes the skeleton to be that of an elderly woman, but no identification has been made.

Cloth fragments and jewelry were also found.

Additional bone fragments are rumored to have been located in the basement, stories which the police will neither confirm nor deny. A spokesman for the Wilmarth Café indicated that they have suspended business pending the completion of the official investigation.

The previous owner of the building, Professor William Henderson, last descendant of the Arkham Hendersons, died last week at St. Mary's Hospital following a heart attack.

Sources revealed the building was donated for the café nearly six months ago.

Police have questioned Professor Gary Taylor, friend and now executor of William Henderson's effects, in connection with the find. Taylor himself is presently hospitalized at St. Mary's Hospital, recuperating from a stroke. Doctors have refused requests for an interview.
