He was up to his eyeballs in bad press from scandals and corruption allegations. It's possible that this may help the Dems as much (or more) than it will Republicans, in that they can now have a fresh face run in the elections.

Nah. He was a disgrace to his former service; his death may just possibly help the Dems (I hope not) but the world is a somewhat less disgustingly dishonest place as of right now.
I read that the Dems are already saying that "we owe it to John to pass healthcare."
