I thought perhaps we could use one of these now. If anyone feels like running back research, feel free. Otherwise, it'll be picking up from the present with some bits of past info peppered here and there as it's found. Once again, while we try to keep track of all the drama as it goes down, this is to be completely objective. Subjective posts will be edited to keep only facts in order. Dates and occurrences will be kept in chronological order.


Timeline of UGOPlayer Forum Events

7/18/06 - Prof MG Miller makes introductory post on UGOPlayer.

7/21/06(?) - Prof MG Miller becomes admin.

8/25/06 - Daigoji Gai makes a thread/post (http://www.ugoplayer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=49321) simply stating "Deimos is coming."

- Deimos (http://www.ugoplayer.com/forum/member.php?u=1055161), with rep power grossly altered by Daigoji Gai, disrupts the rep system during the evening hours by positively and negatively repping several members. Because of his altered rep powers, this causes a cascading effect, with members he affected in turn repping and affecting others. This is explained more in a thread here. 8/31/06 - Shady, Illidan, and Grunthos become super mods.

9/06 - Prof MG Miller takes a weekend and fixes rep by hand, line by line. Some members report a persistence in abnormalities, however, and the rep system is inevitably taken offline.

11/29/06 - Almighty David is remodded as a global moderator.

6/17/07 - Prof MG Miller has a nervous breakdown. He assumes total control (http://www.ugoplayer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=58840) over the forums and renames himself. Thus is the beginning of the incarnation Big Chief Knockemboots.

2/15/09 - Shady resigns her position as super moderator.

2/17/09 - Speckta removes Shady's mod privileges as requested.

3/3/09 - LPforever, ninjit-shoe and anarchistmunky unmodded for lack of activity.

3/9/09 - Final_Nightmare becomes global mod.

3/13/09 - Daigoji Gai mutes Shady's account after the two of them debate in the thread "John vs. Jim" in Serious Discussion. This is viewed by many to be a cheap shot and abuse of admin abilities by Dai in response for Shady holding an opposing viewpoint.

- The rep system is restored and reset.

3/16/09 - Shady's account is unmuted. (http://www.ugoplayer.com/forum/showthread.php?t=68563)

3/17/09 - Daigoji Gai mutes Toad's account in a fashion modeled after the previous incident with Shady.

3/17/09 - Toad resigns as super moderator.

3/18/09 - Daigoji Gai mutes Edmaster's account in a fashion similar to the previous incidents with Shady and Toad.

3/19/09 - Big Chief Knockemboots is partially re-admined.

- Edmaster's account is unmuted.

12/20/09 - Final_Nightmare makes a thread (http://freegames.1up.com/forum/showthread.php?t=70340) and poll for worst FP mod/admin.

12/21/09 - Daigoji Gai edits the poll to give himself over 900,000 votes.

12/22/09 - Edmaster posts criticizing Daigoji Gai. Daigoji Gai turns the entire forums off. Visiting the site yields the message
The forum has been closed by the Big Bad Wolf. If EDMaster had any idea of what he was speaking of, he would render an apology and realize Dai is the only reason the forums are still active. Think about it.

1/8/10 - Big Chief Knockemboots and Daigoji Gai have a confrontation in the Moderator forum. Daigoji Gai takes things personally and removes BCK's admin rights, making him a global moderator.

1/9/10 - In the early hours, Daigoji Gai removes all mod rights for BCK. It is strongly believed that he was inebriated during this time.

- Speckta asks BCK to be senior mod. BCK is s'modded.

1/27/10: UGO relaunches, UGOPlayer forums are down momentarily. Serious Discussion is hidden again. Fixed-width margins remain.

1/28/10 - Daigoji Gai quits at UGO to work for Time Inc, Marketing & Audience Development.

2/25/2010: The forums are down at both UGOPlayer and UGO.com, yielding a database error. Speckta reports this is because updates are being run.

6/24/10 - The auto-posting UGO RSS feed is turned off.

9/28/10 - The url is changed from http://www.ugoplayer.com/forum to http://freegames.1up.com/forum

10/20/10 - Speckta publicly announces the forums, as a whole, will be locked on Monday, October 25, 2010. They will remain visible for archival purposes only; no posting.

10/25/2010 - 10:00 EST - Speckta removes posting privileges and begins locking forums one by
20:20 EST -Speckta deletes most user groups, removes reputation system permissions and social group posting privileges. The private messaging system is also turned off.

Allow me to enlighten you. UGO doesn't care about its forums. Seriously. They have not cared about their forums for at least 7 or 8 years. They view them as low to no priority. Page views and ad revenue comes from the front end of their sites. This is why the 1up community freaked out when UGO acquired them. They saw it for what it was, the beginning of the end. UGO destroys communities. They are the single most hated entity in the entertainment/media industry, they are a mockery, and they're viewed as such. Sad, because in the late 90s, even until about 2003, they were actually something. Shame.

However, I am certain the lack of traffic may be due to the fact that key members who generate traffic are expelled from the website due to grievances with Daigoji Gai.

Though this is a major hindrance in traffic, there is also the issue that the website's animations are difficult to find, and this puts UGOplayer behind competition such as Newgrounds. I have no doubt this is due to the site's poor navigation, and perhaps its old layout would be preferable when it was under the name 'flashplayer'. I understand the name cannot be changed to that, yet the old site's layout was more efficient than its current one. Also, the name "UGOplayer" itself is problematic, as it may be tedious to differentiate between the UGO website and UGOplayer. I suggest a name change.

Also, though he means well, Daigoji Gai is prone to unfortunate alterations in his emotions at often inconvenient intervals. I suggest he is evaluated and potentially relieved of his moderation duties on UGOplayer to focus on other aspects of his career with UGO. I would also recommend someone skilled in Lean Systems and Six Sigma undertakes the task of bettering the website itself. Though they are typically seen as manufacturing terms, they are most certainly not limited to that.

I care about the website personally, and I wished to send in my thoughts regarding the circumstances it faces. I find it would be more profitable to pay closer attention to what I have recommended.

UGO isn't concerned about the forums. It's not why they buy up internet properties. I won't say that Dai is being honest when he says that he's the only reason they're still up, but I can tell you that complaints about how the forums are run will almost certainly go through Dai, regardless of how you try to get around him. It's simply not worth anyone's time to deal with it.

UGO is not a small company in dollar terms. If site forums were of import to them, they certainly wouldn't fob them off on a manic-depressive narcissist who constantly needs to have his web-ego stroked, and they sure wouldn't ignore the fact that forum traffic pretty much plummets after they take over.

As with CR and UGO, once they take over that's that. The forums are Dai's sandbox, and he's quite harsh with his toys.
