Discuss anything anime related.

Manga, anime, Touhou, Vocaloids, or whatever you like.

I'll get this ball rolling with Umineko no Naku Koro Ni. Only two episodes in but it's already got me hooked. It's a bit* more tame than the manga, but I still love it.

*read: A LOT

I used to like Ranma 1/2 (sub, not dub). I've seen a bunch of DBZ, like the Frieza (sp?) saga, the Cel (sp?) saga and the stuff with Majin Bu. Saw some original Dragonball. My high school girlfriend made me watch Pokemans with her. Saw Kenshin once or twice. And the movie Oni Tensei is pretty whacked out but good. Oh, and of course Akira.

I haven't read any manga or watched any anime in the longest time, I really should get around to it more.

I never got into Ranma 1/2 but I loved DB and DBZ. Loved Akira too, hoping the live action US version does it justice.

I'm not watching Kai since it's just a HD remake of the series. Don't feel like watching something I've seen already.

Whenever possible I much prefer to watch an anime that is in the original Japanese with English subtitles. The Slayers OVA just isn't the same without the energetic (to say the least!) original voice of Lina Inverse, for example.

Same with Godzilla movies, in part because the subtitled versions often include the footage that was hacked out of the original in order to better suit the strange changes they make for the subtitled versions. It's particularly fun to see how the polite-to-a-fault Japanese personal code of conduct affects some of the dialogue throughout the original 1954 film.

Plus... no Raymond Burr. :p

What did you think of the last arc? It didn't feel the same as the rest of the series and didn't live up to previous arcs.

The last arc of Yu Yu was good, but it could've been longer. There was an opportunity to really expand on all of the introduced characters which they just kinda' skimmed through.

Otherwise, I was pleased. Though I wanted to see a bit more of Sakyo, he was my favorite character.

I am a very big fan of Gundam Wing (including Endless Waltz). Ooh, and Berserker and Record of Lodoss War (both series). Ooh, and Kenshin. Boy it's been a while since I've seen some of these.

And I did like both Appleseed movies. The second one was way better than the first.

As of right now I've seen Dragonball, Dragonball Z, some GT, Full Metal Alchemist, Ranma 1/2, Kenshin, Gundam Seed, Gundam Wing, Haruhi, Code Geass (gay ass lol), and Neon Genesis Evangelion. Some dubbed, some subbed, not sure which were which anymore.

My brother tried to get me into Bleach, but I only saw a few episodes and wasn't too impressed. Same with Naruto.

Saw the first episode of Deathnote and stopped watching immediately. Couldn't take the angsty teen bullshit.

Death Note gets better. Give it a few episodes.

As for Bleach, it doesn't really pick up until the Soul Society arc, which is 20 episodes in. Then it has filler. Then it kinda picks up again, but Soul Society arc is still the best IMO.

The new season, FMA: Brotherhood, is just as perfect. Granted it's moving at a more rapid pace only to catch up with the manga, but it still revisits some of the scenes of the original FMA.

elemental gelade i stopped watching because in the first episode, there is a ninja invasion of the dude's ship. So if you're into that anime, those are the release dates for the movies. Overall, Eden of the East was brilliant. It offers what most anime doesn't, a plot line that it actually sticks to. Finally been getting around to the FMA manga, 16 volumes in.

Most recent anime watched would be Scrapped Princess.

Do not let the title fool you, this is quite a show. Excellent magitek system, world and plot (also happens to have alien beings and such constructs that are very similar to the ones in Haruhi). Characters are a bit weak and uninteresting, but it still holds up.

Yes, if your looking for an anime that most people havent heard of, check out Scrapped Princess. 24 episodes, btw. A shorty but a goody.

I actually plan to watch Scrapped Princess. I just heard about it on a whim and thought it sounded interesting. Yeah, I'm lacking on the FMA manga, I have vol. 15-18 which need read, but I absolutely love FMA: Brotherhood. The animation is crisp and the OPs and EDs are still rather impressive. Also, I've been watching Spice and Wolf. Only three episodes into it, but it's a rather different anime. It's great cause every episode is something different and I love that about an anime, enter Mushishi, which was a masterpiece.

Also, Nepharski, how many volumes of 20th Century Boys are there?

08-13-2009, 06:01 AM
I never really watched Mushishi outside of two episodes, but I've kept up with the Manga. Shame it's expensive (by Manga standards anyway), or I'd own more of it. It really does read like a collection of biological fairy tales for adults.

I want to like FullMetal Alchemist: Brotherhood, but they keep cutting scenes and rushing episodes, which annoys me. I still watch it for the fluidly animated fight scenes though. Should be something special when they reach the current Manga arc.

Yeah, Mushishi is rather expensive at Borders and such. Still, get what you can though cause the flow of the story is just different (in a good way) from any other manga/anime I've taken the time into.

Granted in Brotherhood, they've gotten to the newer content with Lin and company but they did cut a lot of the more comical parts out. I'm gonna miss the episode with Havoc trying to date Armstrong's sister.

I'd get a headache just tallying them all. So while Mushishi is a solid title, it takes the backburner to some of my other series.Granted in Brotherhood, they've gotten to the newer content with Lin and company but they did cut a lot of the more comical parts out. I'm gonna miss the episode with Havoc trying to date Armstrong's sister.I could understand Brotherhood if they were just skipping past the old material to get to new Manga content, but even now they seem to be going at a fast clip. It's more reasonable now, but still irks me.

FMA isn't that expensive, really, just that Shounen Jump titles are comparatively cheaper. 20th Century Boys and Hellsing are up there though, along with Berserk and whoever decided that later volumes of Blade of the Immortal should be $20 a piece.

Manga's even cheaper in Japan (one of the reasons it became so popular), but tends to get printed on lower quality paper, so it's more susceptible to wear and tear. The dust jackets are nice though.

Finished the two Soul Society arcs in Bleach. Meh. The show is alright, pretty much typical anime nonsense with DBZ-style pacing.

"You have a GIANT SWORD? THAT'S COOL I have a SWORD THAT CUTS YOU A THOUSAND TIMES AT ONCE LOL. Now I'm going to talk about my awesome finishing move some more before I actually attack you... BUT BEFORE THAT I need to backtrack the story a bit to talk about my CHILDHOOOOOOOOOD."

if you want to watch 10 episodes of nothing but generic harem fanservice then go ahead.

im not even making it up, the first two episodes make you think this is going to be an action anime (even though the action is in the last 5 minutes of those episodes). then the next 8 episodes are nothing but stupid highschool shit with 20 seconds of action in each one.

nothing plot related happens until the end of episode 10

I just watched a ton of stuff last night:

Eden of the East Movie 2: Paradise Lost
Fate/Stay Night: Unlimited Blade Works
Railgun (which I finished last night)

Overall, it was a pretty good night. EotE 2 was a pretty solid conclusion to the previous series and movie, gets a 9/10. FSN:UBW had amazing animation and the battle sequences were intense. I've never played the VN of FSN, but UBW takes the Tohsaka Rin route (though I did watch the anime which took the Saber route). Regardless, there were some similarities and it gets 9/10. Railgun was a solid series IMO, granted I still need to watch Index. What I liked about Railgun a lot though was its music. The blend of techno was pretty fitting and overall, Railgun gets 8/10.

Baka to Test Shoukanjuu is probably one of the funniest shows I've watched this year. It had me rolling in laughter quite a lot. Shinrei Tantei Yakumo (Police Detective Yakumo) is also a pretty good show. A lot of supernatural elements in that anime. I still say though that Durarara!! was the best anime of 2010.

Black Butler is turning out pretty amusing. I do like the odd old fellow, and the plot is engaging enough to watch the series through. Sebastian is like a mix between Alucard and Walter from Hellsing, which isn't a bad combination. Though for good reasons, he leans a little closer to Alucard. With his own flare.

I've been curious as to what Black Butler is like. From what I had previously heard, it was somewhat shounen-ai bait, but looking at it, and seeing the main genre as shounen, I don't think there's a problem.

Yeah it's really really good, like the main character the girl is really compelling. She's pretty much a genius and is always condescending, and sarcastic; but then she'll do things that are hilarious and adorable as well. I was expecting a really light-hearted series but some of the mysteries they try to solve are pretty dark. Like the second episode involves a bunch of kids that murdered each other on a boat. It's really neat. Has a lot of old detective cliches but it's good.vlHtCjWD660

I've watched Death Note as I've said before. I've watched like 10 episodes of "Monster" a long time ago which seemed pretty good but I don't remember it much. There is a lot of praise about Code Geass which I'll probably watch. Another one my buddy told me about was "Hellsing" which sounded cool but I didn't really research it or watch it all. Anyways. I marathon anime all the time don't feel bad. I'd recommend starting with baccanno it's short and good. It's hard to follow at first which is why it's neat, but the story unfolds in such a way that everything pieces together in a way where you will be familiar with all the characters and exactly what is going on eventually; so don't feel bad if you are lost the first few episodes.

I actually started Black Lagoon first, since it was the torrent that finished first. I'll probably watch it up to 14, or whenever the season ends, then maybe watch something else and then come back to it. Depending on how good Black Lagoon gets, and how much I enjoy it.
