Today the repeal measure passed 245-219 with 3 democrats.

That's a considerably more substantial majority than that by which the original law passed.

Discuss.

It will be interesting to see how this plays out. It's a purely political move, IMO, as I don't think that the Senate will vote to repeal. They might even use procedures to keep it from ever coming to a vote.

But the GOP probably sees this as a win in almost any scenario. If by some miracle the Senate was to also vote to repeal, the President would veto the bill and the GOP definitely doesn't have the votes to override. What they want is to force the issue and have Democrats reaffirm their support for the health care bill, so that it will be much harder for individual congressmen to equivocate in 2012. Having the Senate also vote for repeal would be a dream come true for the GOP-- it would force Obama to go directly against his party right after it will have pulled the rug out from under him, which would likely cripple his chances at getting his party's nomination in 2012.

But I'd be shocked if it came to that. This is more about targeting Senate/House seats in '12.

And about delivering on promises made during the election. The Reps promised a pronto repeal vote, and got it. If they'dve won a majority in the Senate, they'd be having one there, too.

But critically, The House is where spending and appropriations must originate, per the Constitution... Pursestrings are a mighty powerful force in the hands of a disciplined party.

Much happier that the Dems lost the House, than if they'd only lost the Senate. Puts paid to any of that booshwa "obstructionism" talk.

My two cents: I hope they do repeal it, and that's all I have to say.
